Wonderful talk - wish I could have been there. I'd love to use this with my science communication course in the spring. Did anyone get this on video?

I like your explanation of the power behind stories, and how high school can beat the natural curiosity our of kids. I spend a couple of hours each year with a middle school class teaching them about either fish, marine biology or zebrafish development, and there is no end to their interesting questions. By college it seems that we need to tease that back out of them. Fortunately, the seniors in my science communication class are very receptive to the idea that it is up to them to explain science to their friends, family and the rest of the public, and they enjoy blogging about cool science stuff.

Ah, but do they know the Belgian team of Guibert and Sfar, of Sardine de l'Espace (Sardine in Outer Space)? Joyful anarchy, including many visual throwaway jokes my son loves discovering tucked away in the panels (ie, Armchair in a Tube, a giant toothpaste tube from which you get upholstered living room furniture).
